  1. The e-bike that’s engineered and built like a motorcycle: meet the all new Eskuta SX-250 series III

Comments Off on The e-bike that’s engineered and built like a motorcycle: meet the all new Eskuta SX-250 series III
Launching today, the SX-250 series III from Nuneaton based e-mobility company Eskuta combines the design features of a motorcycle with all the cost saving benefits of an e-bike.

The innovatively designed SX-250 provides an alternative to the more traditionally styled electric bikes currently on offer. Enhanced features include rear view mirrors, indicators, motorcycle-grade adjustable suspension, a motorcycle-grade braking system, handlebar controls, LED lighting, alarm, immobiliser, keyless-go and alloy wheels with tubeless tyres. Yet with no licence, insurance or tax required to ride one, it fills the gap of those wanting a more substantial-feeling e-bike for everyday short journeys that is both environmentally friendly, cost effective and, thanks to the pedal assist feature, requires minimal effort to cycle.

Designed to get its rider to their destination in both comfort and style, the Eskuta e-bike combines a brushless, high-efficiency rear hub motor and a lightweight removable lithium-ion battery that provides approx. 40-50 miles (60-80k) on a single six-hour charge. There’s also plenty of storage on board with a lockable front glove box and optional storage pod.

The motorcycle styling of the SX-250 has been carefully constructed to give the rider a better sense of safety and visibility on the UK’s busy roads. Likewise, the front running LED light and indicators not only ensure the rider is easily seen but also save on battery life. Safety is further enhanced by a powerful front and rear disc brake system, combined with alloy wheels, a tubular steel frame and folding pedals.

Paralympic gold medal winning cyclist, Aileen McGlynn OBE is amongst of the SX-250s many fans. She said,I love using my Eskuta SX-250 series III.  I think it’s great for people like me who can’t drive but still want to get around easily and not always have to rely on public transport.

It enables me to be more independent as I can nip to the shops on it and to get to the gym and training sessions. I like how it has mirrors and indicators which I feel are an excellent safety feature.”

Managing Director of Eskuta Ian O’Connor said,Our SX-250 appeals to a wide range of individuals, from young people over the age of 14 who are not yet able to drive but want the freedom of an electric bike, to older customers who want a comfortable mode of transport for short distances.

This popularity is testament to the fact that electric mobility is becoming more and more mainstream, and it is a trend that is only set to grow going forward as we look to make the switch to electric vehicles and reduce carbon.”

The SX-250 series III comes in a range of 8 colours and is also available in a delivery model which can be custom branded. Eskuta’s current last-mile delivery partners include takeaway giants Just Eat, Domino’s, Papa Johns and Subway, as well as hundreds of smaller takeaway and convenience stores around the UK.

Every bike is delivered fully assembled with an immobiliser and alarm fitted as standard by one of the expertly trained Eskuta drivers who also give a full demo on delivery.

The SX-250 series III personal model and the SX-250 delivery model are available to order now from www.eskuta.com and through select resellers throughout the UK and EU.

Eskuta will also be exhibiting the new SX-250 at the upcoming Robert Llewellyn’s Fully Charged Show from the 29thApril-1st May at Farnborough International.

  2. Introducing the Stromer ST3 with Pinion gear and belt drive

Comments Off on Introducing the Stromer ST3 with Pinion gear and belt drive
LEVA-EU member Stromer’s bikes stand for outstanding Swiss engineering skills and their exclusive combination of timeless design, smart connectivity, pure performance, and maximum range. From spring 2022, Stromer’s latest model will roll into the shops: the ST3 with Pinion gear.

Pinion gear according to industry standard
The Stromer ST3 is an exceptionally dynamic s-pedelec. The 9-speed Pinion gear uses automotive technology and delivers reliable performance with a gear ratio range of 568%. In the Pinion gear, all gears can easily be changed while driving via a rotary switch. The gearshift is not overloaded by the engine and reacts quickly and precisely, being wear-resistant to every gear change. Together with the silent Gates Carbon belt drive, the ST3 Pinion is extremely maintenance-friendly. See the launch video here.

    Clean design
The gear, easy-to-operate switch, and belt drive are seamlessly integrated into the clear Stromer frame design. The 820 Watt strong rear-wheel motor supports quietly and dynamically up to 45 km/h, the 983 Wh battery in the Launch Edition provides no less than 180 km of autonomy (standard: 814 Wh battery with a range of 150 km).

Modern communication between bike and rider

Like all Stromer models, the ST3 Pinion is also fully connected. Via the mobile network and the free Stromer OMNI connect app, the bike has GPS positioning and Smart Lock theft protection: in an emergency, the motor is blocked and the alarm and GPS positioning are activated. With ‘smartlock’ via Bluetooth, the bicycle can then be automatically locked and unlocked. With the user-friendly app, the engine settings can also be adapted to personal needs, driving statistics can be retrieved, and much more.

    ABS option – extra safe
With the new Stromer ST3 Pinion, you not only enjoy excellent driving dynamics, but also commute particularly safely. After all, the bike is available ex-works with fully integrated ABS. The ABS drastically reduces the risk of the front wheel locking up and the rear wheel lifting off the ground, guaranteeing safe driving. The bike is also available with an optional suspension fork and with stem and handlebar variants. For those who want to be just that little bit different, the ST3 Pinion comes on the market with an Imperial Red paint as the ST3 Pinion Launch Edition.
The ST3 Pinion is ideal for commuters who cycle all year round, regardless of the weather. It is an economical and low-maintenance alternative to commuting by car – for efficient mobility when commuting.

  3. Bafang gets stronger and lighter – the new power engine, the M510 mid-motor predestined for E-MTB enthusiasts who prefer steep ramps and bike parks

Comments Off on Bafang gets stronger and lighter – the new power engine, the M510 mid-motor predestined for E-MTB enthusiasts who prefer steep ramps and bike parks
LEVA-EU member Bafang introduces its new M510 mid-motor, the successor to the proven M500, for rugged and demanding applications.

As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of eBike drive systems, Bafang strives to offer the best motor and system solutions for a wide range of categories – and continues to do so with the new M510 in the powerful mid-motor class. The strong torque of 95 Nm is the same as the M500 but the overall torque curve of the M510 is higher than that of the previous model. This is clearly noticeable with the extreme high cadence support of 120 rpm. To further push this efficiency of the power increase, the rotor and the segmented stator were revised and a Magnesium housing was constructed, reducing the total weight of the M510 by a full 500 grams (18%) to 2.9kg (weight M500 = 3.4kg).

    Smooth starting, powerful acceleration

In addition, the software for the starting characteristics has been optimized to provide a smoother and more controllable start. These characteristics allow for a better entry into short curves or crisp climbs. With tremendous peak power, acceleration is customarily powerful and right on point!

    Agile and sensitive

It is precisely on steep climbs or in tight bends where it is most important for the engine to release the right amount of power with pinpoint accuracy. Too much power causes the tyres to spin, while too little power leads to unstable handling. Thanks to the high sensitivity of the torque sensor, the M510 can gague the right amount of power according to the rider’s pedaling force, and dial in the appropriate assistance. With this power spectrum, the M510 mid-motor is the ideal choice for performance-oriented use, whether in the bike park or when conquering technically challenging uphill climbs!

In addition to the lighter construction, the mid-mounted motor has been equipped with refinements such as increased waterproofing, a 12V light module, and integrated connections. Furthermore, the M510 is compatible with a common chain guard, has the same motor mount as the M500/M410, and offers the option of a hidden speed sensor installation.

The M510 motor is compatible with most of the products in the Bafang portfolio, such as the Intube battery, the displays DP E180/181 with a clean LED HMI, the optional upgraded color version DP C242 HMI, the hidden speed sensor with two different magnetic fixation solutions, and the upcoming new Bafang APP. By producing the above components in-house, Bafang is able to guarantee delivery times of 60 to 90 days.

The M510 motor has already been in successful use since the beginning of the year, in the professional CST PostNL Bafang Mountainbike Racing Team with team manager and MTB icon Bart Brentjens. Powerful – The comment of Kjell van den Boogert, E-Biker of the CST PostNL Bafang Mountainbike Racing Team, who is currently in Noli, Italy at the team training camp: “I am happy with the new M510! The engine feels much more powerful and is also very quiet”. M510 – Powerful, compact, light and dynamic.

  4. Ellio x Ahooga — Belgian bike brands join together to bring speed pedelecs to major cities

Comments Off on Ellio x Ahooga — Belgian bike brands join together to bring speed pedelecs to major cities

Belgians love cycling. It will therefore come as no surprise that the country has more than one innovative bicycle brand. Industry leaders: Ellio Bikes and Ahooga Bikes. The two young and ambitious bicycle manufacturers are joining forces to develop the Ellio Elite ‘Ahooga Edition’, a speed pedelec designed for future urban mobility.

With a shared vision on the potential of speed pedelecs in cities, Ahooga and Ellio join forces for the first time. Ellio from Leuven is best known for its progressive speed pedelecs with two-wheel drive and automatic gears. The Brussels-based Ahooga takes the city bike to a higher level with its designs. Because these two Belgian brands effortlessly complement and reinforce each other, a collaboration was inevitable. The result of this cross-pollination is the Ellio Elite ‘Ahooga Edition’, the high-tech Ellio speed pedelec in a custom Ahooga color. The ideal means of transport for the city.

The limited-edition bike will also be equipped with a built-in tracking system that prevents theft. With this collaboration, the bicycle brands hope to contribute to the integration of speed pedelecs in cities. Not only in Belgium, but also far beyond.

Jorrit Heidbuchel, co-founder Ellio“Ellio and Ahooga share a vision of developing bicycles as a mobility solution, by making cycling fun, safe, and easy for everyone. We both see great potential for speed pedelecs as a full-fledged alternative to the car in large urban areas.

“For two small, but very complimentary Belgian players, it makes so much sense to complete our mission together, both in Belgium and abroad. Hence this collaboration. We are very happy with what the Ahooga team has done with our Ellio Elite bike “

The two bicycle companies also plan to continue working together in the near future. “This collaboration is very meaningful. Belgium is the beating heart of cycling. We are also among the countries with the highest e-bike penetration in the world. For Ahooga, using the best e-bike technology on the market, which is also Belgian, is a breeze. We were really impressed with the quality of IntuEdrive’s all-wheel-drive technology. It outperforms any available alternative in terms of power, range and safety,” said Tita Lambotte, Ahooga founder and CEO

The Ellio Elite ‘Ahooga Edition’ was on show at the Bike Brussels Fair in Tour & Taxis from 25-26-27 March.

The Ellio x Ahooga bike will be sold through the sales channels of both Ahooga and Ellio. It is expected in stores from April 2022.

The Dutch e-bike company takes a bold step to keep up with rapid brand development.

On 12 March, Amslod opened the doors of its first Experience Center in Hasselt, Belgium. This is the Dutch brand’s first international expansion since its creation in 2015 and subsequent development throughout the Netherlands.  The Hasselt center will mark the 17th such site for Amslod, allowing them to connect directly with customers.

Patrick van Wezenbeek, Sales Director at Amslod shares, “We are very proud that we were able to open the doors of our first e-bike test center in Belgium last weekend. Amslod is growing fast and we also see many opportunities in Belgium. As far as we are concerned, this store is the first of many.”

At Amslod centers, customers can test and ride the brand’s e-bikes, allowing them to make the correct purchase for their lifestyle. Wezenbeek continues, “Testing an e-bike before purchasing is not only fun but also very important for the right choice. An e-bike is something personal. Only our own e-bike experts know all the ins and outs of the Amslod e-bikes, down to the smallest detail. You simply cannot expect something like that from a dealer who has to sell multiple brands.” In addition, the centers act as a service and warranty department for customers, where skilled technicians can provide answers quickly face-to-face.

  8. Electric bikes found to extend older individuals’ cycling lifetime

Comments Off on Electric bikes found to extend older individuals’ cycling lifetime

Despite no hard new findings, recent research reinforces current scientific literature

A study by Flemish and Dutch universities aimed to determine the effects for older individuals opting for an electric bicycle. To this end, they asked more than 800 e-cyclists in the Netherlands and Flanders about their experiences.

This did not yield hard figures, however, more general conclusions from previous studies are confirmed or reinforced.

For example, the researchers found a significant increase in cycling frequency among those who started using e-bikes, this was at the expense of the use of the regular bicycle.

One in four new e-bike users also reported that the electric bicycle led to new trips. In addition, trips with other modes of transport were replaced by an e-bike. It is striking that ‘other modes of transport’ does not refer to walking as this figure remained consistent before and after purchasing an e-bike.

No effects were observed on health, as indicated by the e-cyclists themselves. It does seem, however, that older cyclists experience less hindrance from declining physical capacities once utilizing an e-bike.

The use of the e-bike was monitored over a period of one year. The question is whether the monitored effects also apply in the long term, according to the caveat the researchers make. It may be that the users want to earn back their expensive e-bike a little by making extra use of it; this effect can of course wear off.

All in all, the researchers conclude that the e-bike offers the elderly the opportunity to extend their cycling life, though not proven to be good for health and well-being. The researchers note that road safety is of course an issue, although recent studies show that older e-cyclists are not necessarily more involved in crashes than younger and older conventional cyclists.

The full study can be found here.

  9. Dutch e-Bike and Bicycle market falls 15.9% in 2021

Comments Off on Dutch e-Bike and Bicycle market falls 15.9% in 2021

    Source: Bike Europe

The newly published industry association RAI market research report shows only 923,000 bicycles and e-bikes sold in the Netherlands during 2021. In comparison, the 2020 figure stood at 1,098,000, equating to a 15.9% market shrink in 2021. This drop is attributed to current supply chain issues having a direct impact on product availability, triggering the record high drop in sales volume.
