Gearbox specialist Pinion will launch its next generation of e-bike drive gearboxes with introductory partner and LEVA-EU member Stromer at Eurobike 2022.
“After 10 years of growing central gearbox technology in the cycling marketplace, the next generation has arrived,” announces Pinion. The German high-tech company announced a further expansion of its cooperation with Swiss speed-pedelec pioneer Stromer.
Integrated within the new Stromer ST7 After two years of development, Stromer will be the first speed-pedelec manufacturer to integrate a completely new Pinion shift controller into the new flagship ST7 e-bike.
The bike and system will be on display at the Pinion booth D08 in hall 12 and Outdoor Demo Area F12.0/139 as well as at the Stromer booth in hall 12/C17 and Outdoor Demo Area F12.0/H03.

LEVA-EU membermyStromer AG (“Stromer”), a leading manufacturer of Speed Pedelecs, has reached an agreement with the owners of Desiknio Cycles SL (“Desiknio”) to merge with the Spanish brand of premium handcrafted e-bikes. The details of the agreement were not disclosed. The transaction is subject to customary approvals.
Stromer and Desiknio are characterized by a high level of innovation, fully integrated design, leading technology as well as premium quality. Both e-bike manufacturers share the goal of shaping the future of mobility through sheer driving pleasure, efficiency, and quality of life. Desiknio is well suited to expand the Stromer product portfolio: The Swiss-assembled Stromer Speed Pedelecs with electric assistance up to 45 km/h are an efficient means of transport, especially for commuter routes of 15 km and more. Desiknio’s premium e-bikes, which are designed in Spain and handmade in Europe, are perfectly suited for inner-city traffic and shorter distances with electric assistance up to 25 km/h.
Desiknio was founded in 2017 by Joaquin Cortes and is characterized by a high degree of innovation and design orientation. With a weight of only 13 – 15 kg, the models are particularly light and feature a dynamic, powerful, and silent rear-wheel drive from Mahle. Full connectivity is provided by the MySmartBike app by Mahle, which enables, for example, individual motor settings, range measurement, and a GPS function.
By joining forces with Desiknio, Stromer can further expand its leading market position. Stromer employs around 140 people and currently has over 90,000 customers. The company’s growth strategy focuses on expansion into new markets, scaling of the business model, and the development of new, innovative products. In the short term, the partnership will allow forces to be combined, especially in sales, and Desiknio will now have access to Stromer’s entire sales network. In the medium term, R&D and supply chains will be synergized. Desiknio will continue to be managed by founder and CEO Joaquin Cortes as an independent subsidiary of Stromer and will thus retain its special brand character.

The move comes at a time when global mobility behavior is undergoing massive change. Not least due to the Covid pandemic, there has been a strong trend towards individual transport, and against this backdrop e-bikes in particular are becoming fundamentally important. Stromer and Desiknio are also benefitting from other global trends such as connectivity, sustainability, and car-free cities. Premium e-bikes respond to all these trends and offer an attractive alternative to the car. A market study commissioned by Stromer in January 2022 with 4,525 customers showed that 87 % primarily use the e-bike for their daily commute to work – 59 % of them also during winter.
The bicycle industry is responding to these global trends and changing individual needs and as a result is becoming increasingly differentiated, which will lead to further market consolidation in the coming years. Stromer, with its leading market position, is helping shape the market in close partnership with its shareholder Naxicap Partners. The company has clearly positioned itself in the premium segment and as a provider of individual advanced mobility solutions with its multi-brand strategy.

Pinion gear according to industry standard The Stromer ST3 is an exceptionally dynamic s-pedelec. The 9-speed Pinion gear uses automotive technology and delivers reliable performance with a gear ratio range of 568%. In the Pinion gear, all gears can easily be changed while driving via a rotary switch. The gearshift is not overloaded by the engine and reacts quickly and precisely, being wear-resistant to every gear change. Clean design The gear, easy-to-operate switch, and belt drive are seamlessly integrated into the clear Stromer frame design. The 820 Watt strong rear-wheel motor supports quietly and dynamically up to 45 km/h, the 983 Wh battery in the Launch Edition provides no less than 180 km of autonomy (standard: 814 Wh battery with a range of 150 km).
Modern communication between bike and rider
Like all Stromer models, the ST3 Pinion is also fully connected. Via the mobile network and the free Stromer OMNI connect app, the bike has GPS positioning and Smart Lock theft protection: in an emergency, the motor is blocked and the alarm and GPS positioning are activated. With ‘smartlock’ via Bluetooth, the bicycle can then be automatically locked and unlocked. With the user-friendly app, the engine settings can also be adapted to personal needs, driving statistics can be retrieved, and much more.
ABS option – extra safe With the new Stromer ST3 Pinion, you not only enjoy excellent driving dynamics, but also commute particularly safely. After all, the bike is available ex-works with fully integrated ABS. The ABS drastically reduces the risk of the front wheel locking up and the rear wheel lifting off the ground, guaranteeing safe driving. The bike is also available with an optional suspension fork and with stem and handlebar variants. For those who want to be just that little bit different, the ST3 Pinion comes on the market with an Imperial Red paint as the ST3 Pinion Launch Edition. The ST3 Pinion is ideal for commuters who cycle all year round, regardless of the weather. It is an economical and low-maintenance alternative to commuting by car – for efficient mobility when commuting.
With the demand for ebikes ever growing, LEVA-EU member Stromer has a new distribution partner in the UK in the form of Hotlines.

Stromer once again successfully implements the in-house exhibition concept in 2021 and presents all innovations at a glance. In the “Altes Kraftwerk” in Basel (CH) and in the “Thor Central” in Genk (BE), trading partners and invited guests had the opportunity to talk to the management, market managers, product managers and marketing team of Stromer and to take a test ride of the new models in urban traffic. In addition to the special editions ST1, ST2 and ST3, the focus is on the new ST3 with Pinion gearbox and Gates carbon belt drive, as well as the groundbreaking Concept Bike 2022 with an extremely powerful 1440 Wh battery and a range of up to 260 km.
After a successful premiere last year, Stromer decided to show its innovations “in-house” for the second year in a row. At the three-day “Stromer Universe” events from August 21 – 23 in Basel and one week later in Genk, the new Speed Pedelecs and accessories were presented in stylish locations. Different versions of selected models were available for test rides in urban traffic. Especially the new ST3 Pinion aroused great interest among the test riders. Tomi Viiala, Vice President Global Sales, put the ST3 Pinion to the test by riding from Basel to Genk (600 km, 5300 hm, 18 h riding time) in two days. His conclusion: “Test passed!” Both events were a great success with international partners and key accounts from DE, DK, F, GR and CH. And the end consumers also made good use of the opportunity to test the new Stromer models on site at the public days.
The numerous guests enjoyed two unveilings during the evening events. The ST3 Limited Edition in the special San Marino Blue paint finish was presented with great enthusiasm. This was followed by the emotional unveiling of a global innovation: in an impressive laser show in Basel and a fascinating acrobatic show in Genk, the new Concept Bike 2022 for long-distance commuters with a range of up to 260 km was presented. The details of this bike that sets new standards for speed pedelecs will be shown to the public in spring 2022 – until then, the crucial component will remain a secret. The evening presentation and the introduction of the models were recorded so that Stromer dealers who were unable to attend the events could also learn about the new products.

With a one-time upgrade to OMNI C, which is subject to a fee, ST1 riders also have access to the full range of functions of the OMNI C.
