The 2026 edition of China Cycle saw the interest group China Bicycle Association (CBA) present its new five-year plan, with a greater focus on quality rather than quantitative growth.
A new policy direction for China’s bicycle industry was delivered during a show at the opening banquet of China Cycle. The CBA recognised challenges such as international supply chain restructuring and the implications of evolving trade barriers such as import tariffs. They highlighted that, historically, the Chinese two-wheeler industry has revolved around volume and low costs, but emphasised that in the future the focus needs to be on technological success, and brand development.
China Cycle has increasingly become a destination for international visitors, with global brands, representatives, media, buyers and distributors among those attending the trade show. According to Nieuwsfiets, the growth of China Cycle has made it a strong annual contender to the Taipei Cycle Show, which takes place several weeks earlier, with many exhibitors and visitors assessing the importance of participation in both shows – or whether a choice must be made between them.
These discussions over the status of both shows indicate that the Chinese bicycle industry is representing increasing value, and the quality boost for which the CBA has been aiming over the last few years is becoming a reality. This in part has led to greater numbers of Chinese brands in the European market. Whether complete bicycles, OEM products, or accessories, China’s presence in Europe’s bicycle sector has become stronger over recent years. This is partly thanks to rising quality, and also to the brands’ localisation efforts, with European offices, designers, representatives and distributors being taken on board.
