With the new additions the force claims to be the most environmentally friendly in the country

Following an initial purchase of two electric motorcycles in 2019, the first purchase of its type in the country according to local government, the Poprad Police Force has now doubled the size of its electric fleet. Investment in such ecological vehicles helps to minimize the environmental impacts of policing operations.

Initially, electric motorcycles were purchased for female officers due to their smaller and lighter designs. Following resoundingly positive feedback, two larger electric motorcycles have now been purchased for their male counterparts. Of course, alongside environmental benefits, the new vehicles have lower operational costs, plus improved mobility compared to cars. The chief of police, Marián Gardoš shared, “Nowadays, bigger cities such as Poprad are plagued by traffic jams and, in many cases, this [motorcycle] is the means of transport with which we can get to the places where it is needed more easily.”

The city plans to further invest in electrical motorcycles in the near future.
