Job Summary

The Senior Manager, Communications oversees communications across Bird markets in Europe, the Middle East, and Australia, driving forward a thoughtful and strategic effort to achieve our corporate, consumer, and policy goals. This person will lead both region-wide and country-level external and internal communications strategy, primarily through proactive and reactive external communications, media relations, and thought leadership designed to reinforce Bird’s leadership position and build brand awareness. This person will also work closely with our local operations and government partnerships teams as well as other global counterparts to help build trust with city partners and communicate Bird’s value to consumers. This role reports to the Global Head of Communications.

Responsibilities

  • Determine and execute on multi-region communications strategy that demonstrates Bird’s local offerings, category leadership, and brand, creating a cohesive message across markets that resonates with local communities.
  • Define and execute on priority country-level PR strategy, including managing inbound press inquiries and proactive efforts designed to secure media coverage that strengthens our brand within the region.
  • Build relationships with local media and understand the media landscape in key markets to drive media coverage for Bird, including but not limited to new market launches, product announcements, corporate milestones, local executive hires, and more.
  • Lead internal communications efforts to engage regionally-based Bird’s team across Europe, the Middle East, and Australia.
  • Work collaboratively with global cross-functional partners to achieve shared goals.

Requirements

  • Passion for Bird’s mission and a belief in the importance of providing access to sustainable forms of transportation
  • 8-10 years experience managing message development and media relations in a regulated and ultra-competitive consumer product marketplace.
  • 3-5 years of experience in people management and/or managing external agencies or consultants.
  • Experience working across regions, and excellent media relations skills across a variety of global markets.
  • The ability to generate and disseminate content across key markets that speaks to consumers, cities, and regulators.
  • Strong relationships with priority media outlets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and comfort speaking in public, as well as experience working cross-functionally.
  • Strategic thinker and self-starter, willing to roll up sleeves to get the job done.
