About the job

👋🏻 Hello, we’re Laka

You might not have heard of us yet – that’s OK, you’ve found us now – come and find out more about our journey…

Founded in 2017, Laka set out to transform insurance by connecting passionate cyclists to form a collective and protect their bikes for when things go wrong – a better model for insurance was born. For once people come first in insurance by fairly sharing the cost amongst each other. We exist to rewrite the rules of insurance so it’s something people stand with, not against.

Our model: Laka makes sure everything runs smoothly for The Collective – from exceptionally fast claims, splitting the cost fairly, guaranteeing a maximum price and all the other heavy lifting of a regulated insurance business. For that service, the collective pays Laka a fee relative to the claims in a month.

Take a closer look at exactly what this means and how it works here.

What have we been up to since then…?

In a nutshell, we’ve been very busy! Here are a few of the massive achievements we’ve had:

🚀 Raised an awesome Series A investment round of over $20m

🚀 Grown the team to over 60 Lakanauts, based across the UK, NL & France, enabling a choice-based, remote-first way of working

🚀 Launched Laka in lot of new European countries, essentially helping more people in more places!

🚀 Captured the UK and NL enthusiast cyclist market and expanded into commercial business partnering

🚀 Been awarded ‘Best Cycle Insurance Provider’ (for the past 6 years in a row – go us! 🥳)

🚀 Opened 3 shiny new offices in London, Bristol & Amsterdam to provide spaces for people to collaborate as they like

🚀 We’ve also achieved great reviews on Google Reviews and Glassdoor – go check us out!

Help us continue to change an outdated industry…

We’re growing real fast on our path to make the Laka collective model the industry standard and we’re expanding across segments, products, and territories. We’re looking for innovative, bold and brave minds to help us build the world’s best insurance company.

🤘🏼 The role

Product at Laka

As the Senior Product Manager for our D2C products, you’ll take ownership of your specific roadmap and backlogs for your product area, creating and building complete end-to-end customer (rider) experiences that deliver on agreed product metrics.

This role also plays a key part in supporting the wider Product strategy at Laka.

Day-to-day you’ll work on our D2C digital insurance experience from discovery to delivery. You’ll tightly collaborate with Engineering, Design, Sales and Marketing, Growth, Insurance and the wider Product team to focus on what’s most important and continuously improve the experience of our riders. With a deep understanding of Laka’s ethos, partners, riders, products and brand, your strategies will help make our collective vision a reality through developing products and services that not only are fit-for-purpose, but that surprise and delight (in a positive way!).

You’ll be part of a tight-knit team, consisting of: CPO, Head of Product Growth, 2x Senior Product Managers (of which you are one), Senior Product Designer, Digital Designer & UX/Research Designer. You’ll report directly into the CPO.

What you’ll be getting up to:

  • Responsible for delivering on our vision and strategy for retail customers and support the Product team in shaping Laka’s roadmap for D2C and B2B2C, ensuring activity is prioritised in line with the agreed product goals and metrics
  • Lead the delivery and scale-up of our retail proposition that will pave the way for Laka’s continued success in D2C insurance
  • Lead the collaboration within both the internal teams and 3rd parties to launch new product features, maximising re-use across the business
  • Work directly with the Design and Engineering teams to turn your insight into reality – from creating feature briefs to signing off on new releases
  • Own the business value for specific products, including securing support through the appropriate process and relevant technology teams
  • Support the communication and resolution of live product incidents and effectively prioritise, coordinate and communicate the resolution of production issues

You’ll be successful by:

  • Balancing business growth and customer happiness through effective prioritisation
  • Running a structured discovery process by leveraging quantitative and qualitative methods to bring the right products and features to our retail partners and riders
  • Maintaining a strong partnership with engineering and product design to conceptualise and ship world-class products
  • Developing and leveraging an excellent grasp of the micro-mobility ecosystem and the needs of our riders
  • Working cohesively and collaboratively with internal teams – running sessions from kick-off through to post-launch, understanding and navigating challenges such as capacity and workloads
  • Navigating complex situations with internal and external stakeholders in pursuit of delivering value for our riders

Requirements

👉🏻 This role will be a great fit if you:

  • Have 5-7 years of experience in a product management role
  • Have strong experience or understanding of D2C/retail customers (and how they differ from commercial partners)
  • Have experience of running a structured and effective D2C product discovery process by leveraging quantitative and qualitative data
  • Can create clear and concise requirements for Design and Engineering teams, to bring the next generation of features into reality (and sometimes remove some)
  • Have incredible stakeholder management skills and can communicate effectively across the organisation to enable effective product processes
  • Have a strong empathy for riders – on bikes, e-bikes and other forms of transport (we can bring you up to speed with the latest tech)

Plus points:

  • Since we are active across Europe, speaking another language is highly desirable

Before you apply, please make sure that you currently have the right to work in the UK (we’re really sorry, but we’re not able to provide visa sponsorship for this role).
