About the job
As a Senior mechanical engineer, you take a leading role in the technical development of our product portfolio. You are leading the technical development of several products- or portfolio-wide projects during the “New product development” (NPD) and in-market phase.
You collaborate with Product Management, the Technical service team, and the Production- and quality teams to monitor and review the performance of the product in your portfolio on quality, cost, and functionality. You identify improvement opportunities in all technical disciplines in cooperation with the product team and develop/engineer product improvements, upgrades, and successors.
As a senior mechanical engineer, you are setting the bar for engineering quality within the team when it comes to engineering solutions, drawings, validation processes, and implementation. You are a meticulous worker who carries a ton of experience with bringing consumer products from the concept designs to the assembly line. In your role as senior engineer, you function as a coach or mentor to the other engineers in the team supporting them both with professional development as on technical challenges.
Furthermore, you will be responsible for:
New product development (NPD)
- You take a leading technical role in product development projects (NPD)
- Turn product concepts into feasible, reliable, and cost-effective engineering solutions
- Ensure the products/solutions comply with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Release finished products in BOM’s and detailed production-, assembly- and/or inspection documentation
- Setup and execute product validation procedures for the projects you are working on
- Support the “New concept development” (NCD) colleagues with your technical expertise and experience with in-market product issues.
In-Market product maturing:
- Take technical ownership of one or more products in our product portfolio and safeguard “product health” and customer satisfaction.
- Lead and/or contribute to in-market product issue resolution together with the in-market core team
- Take charge of the technical aspects of engineering change management. Manage the technical validation and risk assessments, including preparation of Bill of Test (BOT), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) and validation of technical competences of suppliers.
- Support in setting the technical product roadmap and lead the implementation of product and production improvements for your product line to ensure product quality and functionality.
- Lead and/or contribute to cost down programs to ensure product margin improvements and support SKU reduction initiatives
- Set up and maintain quality standards and work with suppliers to find high quality and cost-effective improvements.
- Gather, maintain and upgrade all technical information, like: Wire diagrams, BOM’s, …) for your products.
What do you bring to the table?
Because our company is developing fast you need to be flexible and able to easily switch between different tasks. You are a meticulous worker, quality-focused and solution minded. You have excellent communication skills and able to work with different stakeholders.
Furthermore you:
- 7+ Years experience in mechanical engineering in bicycle, mobility, consumer goods, or similar industries (e-bikes are a pre);
- Have a Bachelor or Master degree in mechanical engineering or similar;
- Are fully proficient in 3D CAD software (preferably Solidworks);
- Have experience with product engineering and mass-production in plastics and metals;
- Have experience with design for assembly and manufacturing, service, quality and circularity;
- Have experience with product data, documentation, communication, and change management systems (PDM);
- Have experience and deep understanding of quality assurance processes and guiding production and/or assembly partners in this;
- Experienced with systematic, proactive methods for evaluating product concepts and processes (FMEA/DFA/DFM), static/dynamic strength analyses;
- Are fluent in English, Dutch is a pre;
- Like to support and coach engineering team members where needed.
