Recently, a rider of a Scamper folding e-bike made by LEVA-EU member Lacros rode their Scamper folding e-bike to the Italian capital for a special adventure which totalled a milestone distance of 2,150 kilometres.
The trip took Lacros rider Jonet just over a month, riding her Lacros folding electric bike from Amsterdam in the Netherlands, through varied landscapes to reach St. Peter’s Square in Rome, Italy.
Lacros expressed its delight that the Lacros Scamper was Jonet’s travel partner for the tough journey, with its reliable equipment empowering perseverance through riding challenges such as bad cycling paths and steep hill gradients.
The brand stated that impressive stories like Jonet’s are great reminders of why Lacros creates innovative, reliable e-bikes, which push boundaries.
The LEVA-EU member states that it is expanding its range, with a focus on innovating compact and folding e-bikes for daily use, due to these types of bicycles being viewed more frequently as alternatives to the regular e-bike.
The manufacturer explains to Nieuwsfiets that the folding e-bike is evolving from a niche product used recreationally, to a fully-fledged alternative to a conventional e-bike.
Typically folding bikes have been associated with use at campsites, in recreational areas or for transporting on board boats. Lacros reports that they are being used more frequently by users as their primary transportation mode, helped by developments in riding comfort, frame construction and battery technology. With developments in innovation, modern folding bikes increasingly share more characteristics with regular e-bikes such as motor power, stability and range.
Increasing demand for compact e-bikes
Lacros explains that this type of bicycle is becoming increasingly popular in urban areas where there is limited storage space. Thanks to their smaller dimensions, they can fit easier into lifts, apartments and small rooms, and are more maneuvarable in busy urban traffic scenarios.
The company outlines that while compact bikes are still in a growth phase in the Netherlands, they have become established in other regions such as Japan and Southern Europe.
It adds that thanks to frame geometry and electric assistance developments, models with smaller wheel diameters are equipped with more stability and comfort than previously. This has resulted in compact electric bikes, as well as folding bikes, increasingly competing with traditional e-bikes for daily use.
Lacros innovates compact and folding mobility solutions for a wide range of users
Lacros states that foldability is not considered a primary purchase reason, but more of an additional functionality, which it has kept in mind when innovating models for a range of user needs.
Its TX Carbon was created for users prioritising light weight and portability, with a lightweight frame to enable easier carrying and storage of the e-bike.
Meanwhile, at the other end of Lacros’ portfolio, lies the Scamper S600XL Belt, which has a belt drive and a more robust design. With this model, Lacros designed it for users seeking a similar riding experience to that of a regular e-bike, but which can also be folded compactly for transporting or storage.
Lacros is also launching an updated version of the Volte model, which is not a folding bike but a compact e-bike with smaller wheels. Compact bicycles which combine limited overall dimensions with the features of conventional e-bikes are becoming increasingly popular in urban areas according to the company.
The updated Volte follows a broader trend of the e-bike industry increasingly integrating technology and design. It is equipped with a mid-drive motor delivering 85 Nm of torque and a battery that is integrated into the frame. It will also be available in multiple new colour variants.
The LEVA-EU member announced that Robert van Overdijk, Chief Executive Officer of Circuit Zandvoort, has added one of its electric folding bikes to his personal transport options. The bike was customised to his specifications and delivered last month.
Van Overdijk is known for his role in successfully returning Formula 1 to the Netherlands after a 35-year absence, an achievement that placed Circuit Zandvoort back on the international motorsport calendar. His decision to select an Opmaet electric folding bike reflects a growing interest in compact, sustainable mobility solutions among professionals in the Netherlands.
Opmaet Fietsen, based in Nijkerk in the Netherlands, declared that the occasion marks the beginning of an exciting collaboration with Circuit Zandvoort.
LEVA-EU member Folt’s FOLT Voyage model received the highest score from AD in its electric folding bike review for Fietstest 2025.
Folt’s folding e-bike, FOLT Voyage, was crowned top of the class in its category, receiving the highest overall score of 8, with high marks for its comfort, price/quality, engine/support, and display/controls, and top marks for its riding experience and motor support.
Reviewers commented that they were pleasantly surprised by its great riding experience, with others noting its smooth folding process and price as a highlight. Its full test results can be viewed on Fietstest.
