The LEVA-EU member’s award-winning Thuja cargo bike has officially launched in the UK, increasing accessibility for more riders to use this electric trike as a reliable and practical transportation solution, especially in urban areas.

It will be available via UK retailers, which include the London-based Bikeworks.

Configurable front-loaded cargo design

Built around a front-loaded “tadpole” tricycle layout, the Thuja features two wheels at the front and one at the rear. Customers can configure the bike through VanRaam’s online platform, and can choose from a wide range of accessories to customise the cargo area before delivery through an approved retailer.

Enhanced stability for mobility-focused riders

The Thuja has been designed as a suitable transportation solution for cyclists who may feel less confident about balance on busy streets. VanRaam has engineered the front end with steering enhancements aimed at improving handling while maintaining the stability benefits of a three-wheeled design. This makes it a potentially valuable option for individuals with mobility or disability-related cycling needs.

Dutch comfort and upright geometry

Backed by more than 110 years of Dutch bicycle and wheelchair design experience, VanRaam has developed the Thuja with comfort in mind. The bike’s traditional Dutch geometry supports an upright riding position and a short reach to swept-back handlebars, supporting riders with a relaxed posture and excellent visibility of both the road and the front cargo basket.

Integrated headlights are also built into the front section, powered directly by the main battery.

Mid-drive motor and performance support

The Thuja is equipped with a mid-drive motor positioned between the cranks, delivering up to 75Nm of torque. This level of assistance is designed to suit the demands of cargo transport, particularly given the bike’s relatively heavy weight of 58kg. Riders are encouraged to consider storage needs, especially where steps or limited access may present challenges.

Battery options and estimated range

VanRaam offers two removable battery choices through its online configurator: a standard 522Wh battery or a larger 846Wh option. With moderate use of pedal assistance, the larger battery is estimated to provide a range of up to 70km under favourable conditions.

Practical features for everyday riding

The Thuja includes several utility-focused features as standard, such as a rear wheel lock for basic security and full mudguards across all three wheels for improved all-weather riding. The bike also uses a belt drive system rather than a traditional chain, reducing maintenance requirements and helping keep the drivetrain cleaner.

A valuable addition to the UK’s cargo e-bike market

Dutch bicycle manufacturer vanRaam is proud to see the Thuja highlighted in Cycling Electric as a modern, confidence-boosting e-tricycle.

With its combination of stability, comfort-oriented design, and configurable cargo capability, the Thuja represents a significant new option in the growing UK market for mobility-friendly electric cargo bikes.
