After successfully supporting the Summer and Winter Olympic Games in recent years, Lime’s newest rollout of its shared micromobility fleet for the FIFA Men’s World Cup is thought to be one of the largest deployments for a sporting event. The LEVA-EU member is also offering a fixed-price Fan Pass, and optimised operational and parking facilities for the occasion.

With millions of extra football fans currently in North America for the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, Lime is optimising its shared micromobility fleet to support additional demand levels.

Josh Meltzer, Lime’s Head of Public Policy for the Americas, has highlighted to Zag Daily how the increased presence of Lime vehicles will help international visitors travelling to the sporting event.

“We’re the only provider operating at a global scale that’s present in North American host cities. That means visitors from Australia, Japan, Europe and more will already be familiar with Lime when they’re looking for micromobility options to get around in North America.”

Lime increasing micromobility support services during World Cup

It is estimated that there are over 5 million spectators in the region for the 39-day competition, resulting in increasing mobility demand on transport systems due to fans travelling between stadiums, accommodation, fan zones and transit centres.

The operator is deploying 14,000 e-bikes and e-scooters across the USA and Mexico, in the game-hosting cities of Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, Monterrey and Guadalupe.

For the Canadian hosting cities, vehicles will not be increased; however, focus will be directed on scaling local operations. Meltzer has stated that the number of bike mechanics in Vancouver will be tripled for the tournament and the number of in-field mechanics will be doubled.

Lime launches Fan Pass to improve micromobility access for World Cup spectators

In recent months, there have been reports about surging prices for football games, accommodation and transportation during the time of the tournament.

To help travellers avoid transportation price hikes during the tournament, Lime is launching a Fan Pass that’s available until the end of the World Cup on July 19th.

With this campaign, Lime hopes to help travelling match attendees, local fans attending game viewing parties, as well as casual spectators, with predictable pricing that they can easily incorporate into their budget and plans.

The pass will be available for riders in key US host cities (auch as Atlanta, Dallas, LA and San Francisco), the Canadian cities of Mississauga in Ontario and Vancouver in British Columbia, and the Mexican city of Monterrey.

Lime’s CEO Wayne Ting said the following about the company’s special offering for riders during the World Cup.

“Global sporting events bring excitement and momentum to cities but they can also make transportation more crowded, costly and difficult to navigate. As demand for transportation surges, fans often face heavier traffic, longer wait times and fluctuating prices. By offering predictable pricing during one of the busiest travel periods of the year, we’re helping people spend less time worrying about how to get around and more time enjoying the games.”

Meltzer adds how Lime’s offering can add convenience to the experiences of locals and visitors.

“People’s experiences during global events like this are often made up of short trips between stadiums, transit stations, hotels, fan zones, restaurants, local attractions and watch parties. That’s exactly the type of travel Lime serves best with various modes and a service that offers reliable, affordable and sustainable transportation predominantly for trips under five miles.

Lime scaling up operations for increasing demand

As well as the deployment of 14,000 additional shared micromobility vehicles, the company is also boosting operational and parking facilities in host cities.

“We’re making sure riders can find a Lime where they need one, whether that’s near stadiums, fan zones, watch parties or major transit hubs. We’ll use dynamic rebalancing to meet demand throughout the tournament.” says Meltzer.

Scaled operational teams are for ensuring Lime vehicles are available during the tournament’s busy periods.

For example, in Los Angeles, Dallas and New York, Lime reports a staffing increase of between 20% and 50%.

It is also working with local partners to help ensure riders end trips “responsibly” with customised parking arrangements for various markets and venues, such as dedicated parking corrals, designated parking areas and valet parking zones close to stadiums and fan hubs.

Serving the Americas after supporting global sporting events in Europe

Lime has significant experience supporting previous global sporting events, such as the 2024 Paris Summer and 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, and has used these learnings in its support of the World Cup.

For the Paris Olympics, Lime reported over 3.4 million trips, with Games visitors accounting for 60% of them, and 265,000 trips directly serving Olympic venues.

For the Milan Winter Olympics, there were over 433,000 trips completed, averaging at over 25,000 trips per day. The company also reported a 126% increase in first-time riders in comparison to the previous year.

“These events demonstrated that successful operations require close coordination with cities, proactive fleet management and clear parking solutions. We’re applying those learnings across the upcoming tournament’s host cities to help keep vehicles available, organised and easy to use. This also provides opportunities to test and refine our approaches to help inform future global events, including the LA 2028 Summer Olympics,” Meltzer says.

About Lime’s offering for the occasion, Ting has shared the following statement on his LinkedIn page:

“For Lime, it’s an opportunity to show the convenience and reliability of shared micromobility, at scale. All to help fans and residents move quickly, affordably, and more sustainably. Every Lime ride means one less car in traffic, one less parking space needed, and one more fan getting where they need to go quickly.”
