UK sustainable mobility organisation Loud Mobility is holding two events in September as part of its She’s Electric campaign, aiming to introduce more women to the potential of electric bikes.

The free events, scheduled for September 13 and 27 in partnership with Gloucestershire County Council’s Think Travel Team, will present women with hands-on support to try out a variety of e-bikes and cargo bikes. According to Loud Mobility founder Georgia Yexley, more than half of attendees have taken their first ever ride on an e-bike with Loud Mobility, despite over 80% saying they have considered it in the past.

High purchase cost is a key barrier to access for many women, Yexley said to Zag Daily, stating that there’s an “urgent need” for investment to make e-bikes affordable to more people. “We are seeing a worrying trend that the more complex your needs are – often meaning the greater opportunity to benefit – the route to participating becomes more expensive and elusive,” she added. “The demand is there, but we need to create more opportunities and access routes.”
