Online job platform jobtensor.com, based in Essen, Germany, has reported that the company car is losing ground to the bicycle as a sought-after workplace benefit.
In a review of more than 135,000 active job advertisements published in August 2025, company bicycles were offered as an employee benefit in 17.8% of postings. By contrast, company cars appeared in only 3.9% of listings. The findings suggest that employers are increasingly using bicycles to attract talent.
“Our analysis shows that companies are increasingly embracing the shift in mobility. While company cars are losing their appeal, the company bike is emerging as an attractive alternative that stands for sustainability, health, and a modern work culture,” said Thomas Hense, Managing Director of Jobtensor.com. “For applicants, bike leasing is a benefit that pays off noticeably in everyday life – similar to subsidies for public transport or flexible working time models.”
The rise of the company bicycle is not occurring in isolation. Other mobility-related benefits are also gaining prominence, particularly the provision of public transport subsidies. A previous Jobtensor analysis from July 2025 showed that travel allowances appeared in 12.6% of job postings—up significantly from 8.7% the previous year.
