A scheme which was initially available only to annual subscribers to Bergamo’s ATB and TEB public transport systems, has now been extended to monthly subscribers, with the aim of boosting sustainable mobility uptake. The €100 vouchers equate to 100 free 30-minute rides on the city’s bike share service, La BiGi.

In addition to the inclusion of monthly season ticket holders, there has been an extension to the voucher’s validity, to 30 November 2025. Users with a valid public transport pass can request the voucher until this date, and any unused free rides will be valid until 31 December 2025.

Bergamo’s bike share service is operated by nextbike; Account Manager Lead, Francesco Tagariello, said, “We believe that bike sharing is an essential component of public transport – a vision we are proud to support and help realize in Italy. Bergamo stands out as a best practice. Our close collaboration with ATB in managing the city’s public bike sharing system has led to continuous growth, thanks to a service that is reliable, affordable, and increasingly integrated into public transport. This latest step towards full integration positions Bergamo as a model for sustainable mobility in Italy.”

To further enhance the appeal of the city’s bike share service, ATB and nextbike have lowered the age requirement for using La BiGi to 16 years. Francesco stated, “The extension of the service to 16-year-olds allows us to engage a younger generation – already attentive to sustainability issues and frequent users of public transport – helping to foster sustainable mobility habits from an early age.”
