The LEVA-EU member’s CEO was featured in the Belgian media publication’s coverage at Viva Tech, one of Europe’s largest start-up and technology events. Its Core scooter took centre stage on the booth as a future mobility solution, for both recreational and institutional use.
Daily Science’s Christian Du Brulle shared that the Core scooter’s large tires and racing machine look initially caught his eye.
Du Brulle interviewed Ampyre founder and CEO, Arnaud Legrand, about the company’s story.
The Belgian company was founded in Florenville, a province of Luxembourg, to specialise in premium all-terrain electric scooters. Legrand explained how the company’s beginnings came about:
“We were distributing a French brand of all-terrain scooters. We loved the concept, but not necessarily the execution,”
After facing limitations with existing models, the team set out to innovate its own vehicle. Following three years of research and development was the launch of the first Ampyre model, Arrow, in 2023. Its newest model Core is an evolution of this concept.
“We are lighter and more powerful. The machine weighs 36 kilos and delivers up to 6,000 watts of power. The first deliveries are expected in the coming weeks.” States Legrand.
Ampyre is bringing its innovation beyond technical performance with plans to create an all-terrain electric scooter ecosystem.
“We want to offer the best electric scooters in the world and make this discipline a Belgian specialty,” explains Legrand, as he describes the market as having a lot of potential, due to initial players focusing mainly on rentals for tourism. Ampyre aspires to deliver on advanced sports and recreational experiences.
There are two versions of Ampyre’s latest e-scooter offering, designed for getting off the beaten track, even in difficult terrain:
- Road-legal, which is limited to 25 km/hour to comply with Belgian regulations
- Off-road version for use on private land only
The company is also receiving interest from institutions such as police services, tour operators, as well as some special forces which are already using its models.
