Segway’s Ninebot E2 series has sold 1 million units globally

The LEVA-EU member celebrates the special achievement of its E2 series of Ninebot Electric Kick Scooters reaching 1 million units sold. Driven by extensive R&D investment and user-focused engineering, the sales milestone highlights the significant presence of its kick scooters in the worldwide micromobility market.

Segway’s recent announcement, that its Ninebot E2 electric kick scooter series has surpassed one million units, represents the cumulative global shipments of the Ninebot E2, E2 II, E2 Plus, E2 Plus II, and E2 Pro models.

The achievement has been noted as a reflection of a broader shift in urban mobility patterns, with its electric scooters being increasingly selected for short-distance trips by more users.

According to Euromonitor International (Shanghai) Limited’s global sales value assessment of electric kickscooter brands, Segway Ninebot has been the leader for three consecutive years from 2023-2025, respectively. Overall, the brand has reportedly sold over 15 million scooters in total.

Segway’s Ninebot E2 series, designed for beginner riders in everyday mobility scenarios

Developed on extensive user insights, the E2 range was innovated with a specific focus on new riders entering the micromobility market. Its compact and portable models prioritise accessibility and rider confidence, with lightweight and durable frames, and stable handling to improve control. The E2’s sleek design has made it a popular, affordable and practical solution that has been easily integrated into user lifestyles for short commuting trips, as well as first- and last-mile connections to public transportation.

Optimising its hugely popular series for a new generation

Building on its user-focused insights, Segway’s Ninebot E3 series (launched last year) was designed to address a wider range of urban commuting riding scenarios. Significant upgrades consisted of a more powerful powertrain for optimised hill-climbing performance and expanded range, a lightweight aluminum-magnesium frame equipped with a quick-folding mechanism for enhanced portability, as well as a self-developed dual-elastomer suspension created to minimise road vibrations, for a more comfortable, stable, and natural riding experience.

Segway’s innovative integrated system, facilitating ongoing product evolution

Its Integrated Product Development (IPD) is a framework which combines research and development, design, manufacturing, and dynamic user feedback for formulating its product development.

The company continues to prioritise high investment in product and technology innovation, with the employment of over 2,000 engineers and increased R&D funding, which reached USD 174 (EUR 148) million last year, reported by Segway as a 51% year-on-year increase.

The core of Segway’s electric portfolio technology includes proprietary platforms: SegRide™ Riding Safety and Smart Assist Technologies, SegRange™ High-Efficiency Long-Range Technologies, and SegSmart™ Smart Interaction Technologies.

Further innovations it has developed for other mobility categories include, its TurboTuned™ which optimises e-bike battery efficiency and motor performance. For e-mopeds, it innovated Self-Balancing Technology 2.0 for balance assistance, reinforcing the company’s multi-category technology leadership.

In 2025, the company’s internal laboratories received accreditations from TÜV Rheinland and Bureau Veritas, solidifying its rigorous standards.

Strong financial results reflect significant market representation

Segway’s user-centric strategy has generated significant commercial returns, with a reported USD 2.98 (EUR 2.5) billion in 2025, a 49.9% year-over-year increase. The same year, the company reported sales of over 5.55 million of its vehicles being sold globally, including e-scooters, e-bikes and e-mopeds.
