Podbike – the innovative LEV which combines the features of pedelecs with those of a small car – is returning after the brand filed for insolvency in May 2025. It resurfaces with a new brand name, Twozero, which is owned by Norwegian company Phase Energy AS.
The first Podbike Frikar models from the former LEVA-EU member were handed over to new owners in 2023, however a difficult financial situation saw them file for bankruptcy and cease operations last year.
News has now emerged that the Podbike stock of 180 Frikar units has been acquired by Norwegian company Phase Energy AS, plus its entire inventory, production facilities, and special tools. A Kickstarter has been launched, which aims to gain backing for the distribution of the Frikar which has been rebranded as the Twozero Classic.
The Classic will be strictly limited to the 180 existing units, with new models planned for a 2027 launch. The company states that planned categories will include:
- Personal transport models with increased performance
- Pedal-assist urban vehicles
- Fully electric urban mobility vehicles
- Cargo and utility variants
The company says, “TwoZero’s strategy prioritizes real-world usability, energy efficiency, and regulatory clarity over speculative concepts. The company’s vehicles are designed to replace short car trips, reduce congestion, and offer comfortable, weather-protected mobility tailored to modern cities.
“The Kickstarter campaign represents the first public step in building a broader TwoZero micromobility ecosystem—one that spans from pedal-assist vehicles to fully electric light mobility platforms.”
