LEVA-EU member Lime has announced a new pilot scheme targeted at delivery riders in London, which will give them access to Lime e-bikes with a range of passes for various time periods, during which the rider can take as many rides as they need. The pilot also includes small, detachable racks which are designed to support a variety of grocery and parcel deliveries.

Lime states that the Delivery Pass is designed “to keep things simple: A flat fee for access to our fleet, with no need to own a bike, worry about charging or deal with maintenance.”

Delivery riders can choose from a flat-fee pass that best suits them:

• £12 for 24 hours
• Up to £49 for 7 days
• 3-day and 5-hour passes

Lime has highlighted that the Delivery Pass frees riders from the need to rely on a single personal bike, and from worries about maintenance and charging, therefore giving them greater flexibility.

Lime also points out that the use of its e-bikes for deliveries can help reduce reliance on mopeds, supporting cleaner and quieter streets.

The Delivery Pass could also help tackle the rising use of unregulated, modified and illegal motorised bikes, Lime states. Their fleet is fully compliant with all relevant standards including UL-certified batteries, and bikes are speed-limited to 15 mph (25 km/h).

Lime has filed for an initial public offering (IPO) on the Nasdaq stock exchange, with CEO Wayne Ting stating in a letter included in the prospectus that the company “was founded on a simple but radical idea: people and cities deserve a future where transportation is shared, affordable and carbon-free.”

Since the company was founded in 2017, riders have taken over one billion trips on its shared e-bikes and e-scooters, which operate in 230 cities across 29 countries.

Lime also recently co-organised with Mexico City’s mobility secretariat, SEMOVI, a free-of-charge group ride for locals heading to a playoff football match at Estadio Banorte. In a LinkedIn post, Lime stated that, “This pilot group ride was fun and exciting opportunity to bring our vehicles to Mexico City as well as the lessons we’ve learned serving Querétaro, Monterrey and Guadalupe. The success of the pilot demonstrates how micromobility can support large-scale events in a way that is organized, accessible and responsive to the city’s needs.”
