Bikes and e-bikes expert, ANEC – Brussels (BE)
Cycling is key to decarbonise the transport sector and promote a clean and efficient urban mobility. Part of the European Commission’s 2030 climate target plan, cycling and the increased use of electrically-powered or assisted personal mobility devices are clearly a positive change for consumers. Yet this development needs to come hand in hand with safety, particularly for electric mobility devices.
ANEC – the European consumer voice in standardisation – promotes and defends consumer interests in the development of (technical) standards and related activities. Our members represent consumer organisations from the European Union Member States and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries, accession countries to the EU, and the United Kingdom. ANEC was established in 1995 as a non-profit making association with its Secretariat based in Brussels.
ANEC is looking for an expert to provide us with technical expertise and to represent our organisation and defend the consumer interests in standardisation in CEN TC 333 ‘Cycles’.
The current priority would be involvement in WG 5 “Electric Power Assisted Cycles” (EPACs) and revision of EN 15194 for alignment with the Machinery Regulation. The expert may also contribute to WG9 “Cargo Bikes”.
Profile
- Understanding of consumer needs related to bicycles and EPACs, other related personal mobility devices;
- Strong communication and analytical skills; Proficiency in English (the working language of standardisation);
- Willing to work on voluntary basis and to travel (expenses reimbursed);
- No conflict of interest between a role for ANEC and other responsibilities or work undertaken.
The tasks of the expert include:
- To advise the ANEC Traffic and Mobility Working Group, on the priorities in this sector, and co-ordinate with the WG and Secretariat on agreed standardisation work items and possible new work items;
- To participate in and present ANEC’s views in the meetings of CEN TC 333; and other relevant technical bodies as determined;
- Report back to the Traffic and Mobility WG (one or two meetings a year);
- To draft technical comments on draft standards and provide input into position papers;
- To send meeting reports within 3 weeks of a meeting, using the ANEC template.
While a volunteering position, ANEC will provide a daily allowance when attending meetings and cover any travel and accommodation expenses. Above all, we offer the possibility to our experts to influence legislation and technical standards to the benefit of all those in society. ANEC reimbursement terms and conditions are available on request.
