As a battery innovator of lithium-ion energy solutions for nearly two decades, the LEVA EU member expands on its commitment to long-term performance and sustainability as being central to its business strategy.

Founded in 2006 in Shenzhen, China, the company has grown into a major global supplier of batteries for e-bikes, e-motorcycles, electric scooters, and industrial applications. Today, Greenway produces 6.5 GWh of battery packs and cells annually, employs over 2,300 people, and reports €287 million in annual revenue.

Mo-Hua Yang, General Manager of Greenway Battery Europe, told Show Daily about the company’s distinct focus: “The battery market is largely dominated by automotive players, but our focus has always been on micromobility and consumer products.”

Micromobility at the core

While many competitors prioritize large-scale automotive solutions, Greenway has maintained a strategic emphasis on smaller-format batteries. Battery systems typically used in e-bikes, dirt bikes, scooters, and light industrial vehicles—generally below 10 kWh—make up the bulk of its output. Currently, micromobility accounts for 39% of Greenway’s revenue, followed by 30% from consumer electronics and 22% from energy storage systems.

Enhancing safety through advanced engineering

At Taipei Cycle 2025, Greenway showcased several safety-certified battery technologies, including models approved under EN50604-1 and UL2271 standards. Among its key innovations is the adoption of wire-bonding technology (replacing traditional spot welding), which has been licensed from LG and also used by Tesla. “This cell connection technology enhances heat distribution, safety, structural integrity, manufacturing efficiency and overall product quality,” notes Yang.

“Consumers want more capacity, but safety must evolve accordingly,” Yang said, underscoring the growing expectations in the e-mobility market.

Smart sustainability in battery design

Greenway is also advancing digital tools to improve battery longevity and support sustainability goals. The company is developing a data-driven platform that will help users and manufacturers monitor battery health in real time—aligned with upcoming Battery Regulation data requirements.

“The Battery Passport is a great opportunity for the industry,” Yang noted. “Real-time data will provide valuable insights into battery condition, helping to improve longevity, reuse and repurposing.”

In addition to software, Greenway is testing hardware solutions such as single-cell replacement with non-welded designs, which is currently undergoing long-term testing. The company also participates in European recycling initiatives like Bebat. “Sustainability should be part of battery design, not an afterthought,” Yang emphasized.

European expansion underway

To meet rising demand, Greenway opened its first production facility in Indonesia in 2024. The company is now preparing for European manufacturing, partnering with a local firm to accelerate its entry, offering faster delivery, and lowering its cost and carbon footprint, with production being expected to begin in 2026.

“Europe is a key market for us, and this new facility marks a major step forward,” Yang concluded.
