The UN General Assembly declared in 2023 that the first ever United Nations Decade of Sustainable Transport would start in 2026.

The Implementation Plan will be launched on 10 December 2025 at a special event in the Trusteeship Council Chamber at the United Nations Headquarters in New York; this will also signify the commencement of the Decade of Sustainable Transport. The UN says that, “the launch event will provide an opportunity for Member States and a variety of stakeholders to showcase their commitment to sustainable transport, share good practices and make announcements of the actions and activities they intend to take to advance sustainable transport during the UN Decade.”
