LEVA-EU member Europe Cycle Company (ECC), producer and distributor of ebikes, is issuing a safety warning and initiating a recall for its electric cargo bike models Vogue Superior Deluxe and Vogue Superior 3. Owners of these e-cargo bikes are urged to register via the website www.bakfietscheck.com for the necessary improvement to be carried out.

An audit of ECC’s notification registration system revealed that reports have been made of frame breakage in both models. The Vogue Superior Deluxe and Vogue Superior 3 have been extensively tested according to the new European standard (EN17860:2024), which was established to ensure the safety of e-cargo bikes for consumers. Both models meet the requirements set out in this standard.

Despite this, a limited number of consumers have reported a frame breakage. Safety is ECC’s highest priority. ECC has therefore, in consultation with the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), taken the initiative to issue a safety warning and initiate a recall.

Installation of reinforcement bracket

Owners of the Vogue Superior Deluxe and Vogue Superior 3 are urged to register their e-cargo bike at www.bakfietscheck.com, after which they will be contacted within a few weeks to schedule an appointment for the installation of a reinforcement bracket on their e-cargo bike.

Owners can continue to use their e-cargo bike in the meantime. However, they are advised to remain alert to any unusual vibrations or movements of the frame as well as for cracks or signs of rust formation. If in doubt, the advice is not to use the bike until the improvements have been made and, if necessary, to visit their dealer for a visual inspection.

For the installation of the improvement, ECC is partnering with FietsPechPas, a professional and experienced party in the bicycle industry. FietsPechPas has over 15 years of experience and specializes in quickly and expertly repairing bicycles on location. After registration at www.bakfietscheck.com, they will contact consumers to schedule an appointment. The improvements will be carried out at consumers’ homes and are free of charge.

“We understand this is an unfortunate situation and may cause concern for consumers. We regret that, despite our Vogue Superior models meeting the requirements set out in the European standard, there have still been reports of damage to the frame. However, the safety of our users is paramount to us. Therefore, in close consultation with the NVWA, we have decided to install a reinforcement bracket on our Vogue Superior models. We are doing everything we can to implement the necessary improvement as quickly as possible, to make sure that all Vogue Superior owners can ride their bike extra safely,” says André Ruiter, Account Manager at ECC.

ECC is in close contact with the NVWA regarding this safety warning.
