The LEVA-EU member has been awarded a contract by the Community of Madrid to modify an old petrol station into an ultra-fast charging hub, which includes a battery swap station for its Silence electric motorcycles. The electric mobility charging hub is expected to be operational by 2027.

The 1,281 m² infrastructure is anticipated to be the largest public EV charging station inside the Spanish capital’s M-30 ring road, located within the Madrid Nuevo Norte development area. It will support a range of electric mobility users from corporate fleets, urban services and end-users who need minimal charging time.

The charging station, which will have 4MW of power, is under a public concession model and will be operated by Acciona for 30 years. It will have 20 spaces for vehicle charging – 19 for passenger cars and 1 for heavy vehicles. A battery-swapping station for Silence electric motorcycles – an Acciona brand – will also be in place, allowing riders to swiftly change depleted batteries for freshly charged ones.

The station will recharge with 100% renewable energy, supported by:

  • Photovoltaic system for self-consumption
  • Generation of a net annual surplus exceeding 35,000 kWh
  • Real-time traceability system for renewable origin
  • Photocatalytic facade capable of eliminating pollutants and improving air quality

Acciona’s house of mobility

The Spanish company has stated that the “house of mobility” will include: a charging area, a vending area, accessible toilets, a muti-purpose space for electric mobility dissemination and events.

Making electric mobility more accessible

This latest development aids Acciona in reinforcing its role as a major operator in urban charging infrastructure, as a welcome addition to its list of 5,000 charging points in Spain and Portugal.

Working under the Acciona umbrella is Silence vehicles, who declared that Madrid is taking “a historic leap towards electric mobility” with the new station eliminating waiting times and reducing barriers as it brings electric mobility closer to millions of people in the heart of the city.
