Cowboy is a Belgian startup that is developing innovative electric bikes for urban riders. Cowboy’s main goal is to improve urban mobility and take commuters to their destination in a more enjoyable, sustainable and efficient manner.
Founded in 2017 by entrepreneurs Adrien Roose, Karim Slaoui and Tanguy Goretti, Cowboy is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. Cowboy is the winner of the Eurobike 2017, the Red-Dot bicycle design award 2018 and the Red-Dot “Best of the Best” award for the Cowboy 2.
With traffic congestion plaguing metropolitan areas, electric bikes are proving to be the fastest means of transportation, beating cars and ground public transport. Cowboy’s vision is to elevate the daily commute to the next level in terms of speed, comfort and freedom of movement around the city. Cowboy enhances the riding experience by unifying intelligent technology, delightful design and meticulous customer service.
Cowboy raised ten million EUR from international investors (including Index Ventures, Tiger Global and Hardware Club) in the Series A round in autumn 2018 and quickly sold out its entire stock of bikes in Belgium the following year. In April 2019, Cowboy launched its second model, the Cowboy 2, and introduced it to 8 additional countries (Germany, France, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom). In June 2020, Cowboy unveiled its third generation electric bike, the Cowboy 3. In July 2020, Cowboy raised 23 million EUR in a Series B round.
About the role
Cowboy is growing quickly expanding towards multiple countries and further developing its product. As Cowboy is evolving from a start-up to a scale-up, our team is growing significantly in all domains and departments.
To support our current growth and help us build an all-star team, we’re now looking for a passionate Head of People. You will report directly to VP People (who is also VP Sales & Operations). As currently the one full time person in the People team you are expected to manage a very wide range of topics including the following

You are expected to demonstrate expertise in those areas, to co-lead them and operate.This person will understand the essence of the company culture and successfully build upon it.As Head of People, your responsibilities would include:
Partner with the Management team to drive strong company culture and values
Administrative tasks related to HR responsibilities
Continuously improve core HR processes from compensation and benefits to peer feedback
Work closely with the VP People to optimize and manage the Talent Acquisition strategy
Help Cowboy hire the best people and oversee the scaling of the workplace infrastructure in line with the company’s growth
Co-lead the hiring process: sourcing, applications, interviews & onboarding
Take initiatives to continuously improve the company culture and ensure everyone in the organization continues to love working at Cowboy
Work closely with the Office Manager to arrange in-house/off-site events
Celebrate employees and ensure their wellbeing at work
Administrative tasks related to HR responsibilities
Digital & analytics skills – ability to set-up, follow-up and champion processes with a variety of people tools including a strong expertise in Excel spreadsheets
Strong project management skills – ability to work with a wide variety of stakeholders including the capability of negotiating and understanding requirements from a wide range of teams
Operational Excellence – ability to work effectively, rigorously and with great discipline moving projects forward and designing and executing effective tools and processes.
Combine strong IQ & EQ – most of the above are extensions or articulations of a strong IQ. In addition having a strong EQ including the ability to listen actively to people, understand and voice needs, take a step back and allow for neutral terrain.
